My chicken has red mites

A couple of days ago I notice my chicken had weird bugs crawling on her , some are red and some are black and they are very small. I did some research and it turns out they are mites. She is currently nesting her eggs and still has 8 days to go. How can I get rid of them? Can the chicks get them when they hatch? Will she abandon them if I moved her and her eggs to clean her nest?

I would pull her out and dust her with a pyrethrin based poultry dust, you can also sprinkle some in the nestbox. The chicks can quickly become overwhelmed by mites when they hatch so take care of them now. It does happen with broody hens who don't dust bath enough while setting.

Permethrin 5-10% spray or the garden dust is safe to use on chickens, and found in most feed stores. The others should also be treated at 7 day intervals, along with treating the coop and nests, and changing bedding. Here is a good link to read about mites and lice, along with treatments:
