My chicken has something wrong on her feet what to do? (any tips)

My chicken has what look to be scaly leg, scales have lifted up,but her feet seems to have red dry rashy patch on it. I'm unsure of what to do? i have read on the websites that you can dip there feet in oil ,then put Vaseline or petroleum jelly on there. Is that safe? Any tips on how to get her leg to heal or at least get better. She is a Rhode island red.
