I have spent the last two days building my chicken house. 12 feet cubed except the front is seven feet tall. All for of us girls out building this house. sending the wood up for my husband to cut. (he's in a wheelchair)The girls(6,9,13) want to camp in it. The chickens love to be able to spread out. We had dogs destroy our last chicken house. I now have 8 chickens and 5 ducks. I want 2 dozen birds so I am looking for 4 silkies. I can't find anyone who sells silkies in this area. any sudjestions? I will incubate my own ducks.

Sounds like you did a great job together! Glad you got your coop back up, that's good news. Enjoy your chickens!!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Generally you should have 4 square (not cubed) feet of floor space per bird. For 2 dozen birds you would need around 24 birds x 4 square feet, or 96 square feet. So, for example, a 10 x 10 coop would supply 100 square feet, which would be plenty for that many birds.
