A few days ago, I noticed my chicken (roughly 3-4 Months old, we didn't get them as chicks so I am not positive of age) had one wing that was hanging and it kept getting stuck in her leg when she tried walking so she was just hobbling around. I removed her from the other chickens and wrapped her wing. She was still not wanting to walk on that leg so I was thinking maybe she injured her wing and leg. After 2 days of being isolated, I removed the wrap to redo it and now she is now not wanting to walk on her good leg. I started to think maybe it was marek's disease, but she does not have any of the other symptoms and is still eating, drinking water and cleaning herself. She is also still sitting up as properly as she can favoring the one leg. I can't afford to take her to the vet, so any ideas of what it could be or things I should try? Thank you!

P.S. - All the other chicks her age are acting normal!

She is now walking on her previously injured leg,but will not walk on previous good leg. Hard to say,is her wing hanging or wrap from wing interfering with leg? If not, possible her good leg is sore from hobbling around on it.I would keep her inside until you can determine if there is something more going on. If she is eating/drinking normal, this is about all you can do.

Thank you for the response! She is still not wanting to walk on the other leg either. I took the wrap off this morning to see how she does with nothing around it. So, I will see when I get home from work what she is doing.

Yes check her out good. Make sure her legs aren't sticking out un naturally or there is no paralisis going on. Are her toes normal or curled? Watch for these signs as they could be signs of Marek's like you mentioned. Hope she gets better and its not serious. It also could be a vitamin defiency of sorts
Keep a close eye on her and please keep us posted! Good luck and God bless!

She is curling the toes on her first injured leg, but I have seen her open them up as well. She is also tucking them up into her body, not sticking out funny. I have had to move her cage a couple of times and then she sticks out her good leg and wing funny, but I think that is just from the movement because she fixes it shortly afterwards. I also read about the vitamin defiency... is there one main vitamin I should try to give her to see if it could be that? Thank you so much!

Yes I would try vitamin and E
Because her legs are involved I'd try riboflavin also. And B6. It certainly won't hurt to try. I have one at home now with a E defiency and it has caused her to only be able to walk backwards and she tucks her head between her legs. (Wry neck) she's improving after the vitamins.as for your bird I surely hope its not more serious like Marek's disease. Try the vitamins and see how she responds. If you start to see paralysis then its likely more serious. Keep a very close watch on her and her limbs. I truly hope its not anything too serious! I wish you the best. can you post a picture of her so we might be of more help? This way we can see exactly what your dealing with? Its very difficult without actually seeing the bird to accurately guess what is happening with her.in the mean time vitamins will certainty not hurt her. I do hope she recovers soon! God bless and I hope this helps some!

I gave her some vitamins, but do believe it is Marek's. Her other leg is now sticking out in front of her and both wings are starting to stretch out, she is also having a hard time keeping her neck up. Since my last post she had been staying the same and even this morning she was still sitting up with her wings in and eating. I was gone for about 6 hrs. and it looks like she has taken a turn for the worst, with all the new symptoms listed above. This is the first time we have had to deal with something like this... I feel so guilty putting a chicken down, but at this point she looks like she is suffering more than anything. Hopefully my husband gets home soon, because I don't think I can do it.

My other concern is the other chicks coming down with this. I removed her from the other chickens about a week ago. However we did have 2 other chicks die within a Month of each other and we weren't sure what happened to them. Could they of had Marek's with no symptoms? All the others are acting completely normal, so how long would it take for the other ones to come down with it.

Thank you for the kind and quick responses, they have been a huge help!
