My chicken is eating it's own egg

I had the same problem with my brahmas. I bought 4 wooden eggs from hobby lobby and put them in the nest boxes. Also put oyster grit in a pan. That solved it for me. Im back to getting 1 egg per hen per day

Chickens start eating their eggs when the shell is so soft it breaks easily. When they get a taste for it they almost do it as if addicted to it.

I had chickens once that would hover around the nest box waiting for a chook to lay to see who could be the first to get to the egg.

Then one day I changed their grain diet. Rather than feeding them only wheat or pellets (in addition to scraps/compost etc) I started feeding them a diet that included, Sunflower seed, cracked corn, soybean, wheat and I also gave them extra shell grit.

Within a week I was collecting eggs again that had a lot of scratches all over them. They had been pecking at them trying to crack the shell but they couldn't. The shell was now harder and after a couple of weeks they gave up trying.

Hope that helps.

I am glad I haven't had such a problem yet, although the girls do definantly like their eggs. I dropped one once and they went into a frenzy, Storm grabbed the shell & ran away with it and Chook & Brownie stayed and drank the yolk

Your baby appears to need calcium. You need to offer oyster shell "free choice" for your girl, then find out about when they lay, and pull the egg as soon as possible. Mine quit eating her own egg after the first day of being offered oyster shell. Now, I can leave the eggs there for a few days with no problems
