My chicken is making a funny noise... HELP!

tonight my chicken started to make a strange noise.... trouble breathing i guess. What do i do? I have never had chickens before. I live in LA and dont know anyone who has chickens. Please help! she is about 7 months old. Oh! and i have two little kids who are with the chickens all the time..... could they get sick?

Chickens DO NOT get colds. They get viral diseases and NO your children will not catch these respiratory diseases.

does it sound like they have a cold, because if it does they have a resporty disease and it can be treated with tytmicen -10 ( can be got at most feed stores) one teaspoon to ever gallon of water , change every day for ten days, need to separete from flock or it will spread to rest of birds, if it has not all ready

Oh! i forgot.... do we stop eating the eggs? i have some from today. she did not lay them.... but still!

eggs should be fine , but when you start to give med's stop eating them till she is well

When you search and see other posts on respiratory dieseases you will find that antibiotics are not necessarilly the answer. All you will be treating is the secondary infections which are cuase by bacterium. The primary infection, the wheezing, the coughing, the running nose etc. it USUALLY caused by a virus for which ANY anitbiotic is a worthless treatment.

PLEASE do research, educate yourselves and understand your chickens health. Google searches and this site searches are a great way to learn an find out how to treat your birds.
