I have one little chickie. Chickpea. Well, I started out with two, one turned into a roo so I found a nice farm to take him to. He left wednesday. So it's down to me and Chickpea. The cutest little white leghorn you ever saw. She's about three weeks now, and growing very well. So bright and chirpy, very clean. And a very good disposition for chicken if I do say so, and I do.
Well I had gotten home from my violin this afternoon, and saw some of the neighbors hanging out outside. So I thought it might be nice to take Chickpea out for some fresh air. I put my thiings down and Chickpea took a perch on my hand, off we went. As soon as we get to the neighbors one of the other girls looks at me and with a look of disgust asks, "WHAT is that?" I replied that this was my little chicken.
She appalled that I would have the nerve to bring a chicken over to someone else's house. I didn't go into the garage because I saw that she had her baby. Immediately she gets all huffy and screams out that chickens are full of diseases and are so disgusting and that she can't believe I would bring her over there. This wasn't even her house, mind you. And then she turns around as quickly as possible and runs into the house.
I stayed because I felt I had done nothing wrong, I didn't go into the garage for "fear" of "contaminating" anything. Yes, my Chickpea is a house chicken, but my house is not gross, and her baby probably has more going on in the gross department.
I just thought it was very rude. I don't think I will be talking to her again any time soon.
