My chicken is pecking me ?

If it’s more than just playful or curious pecking Then I can see where your problem is. If she’s being aggressive that’s different. I’ve never had a hen that was aggressive with me but I’ve had ones that were aggressive with the other chickens. Twice I put them in “jail” for a day and that seem to chill them out. I don’t know if that works the same way when it’s towards humans

Any chicken pecking you should not be tolerated.
It's not 'love'....or wanting to be 'cuddled'.
It's a dominance behavior, and tho not as dangerous as if male does it,
even females should be strongly discouraged for pecking any human.

Have had this happen several times, mostly with hand fed chicks often as they come of age and get spunky. It's pretty easily curbed with calm and deliberate determination.

I peck them back, on the head or anywhere I can reach, with the tips of thumb and first 2 fingers, as hard and fast as many times as I can before they get away. Well, not hard enough to hurt them, just startle them and let them you mean business. That's what another chicken would do, so they understand that kind of communication.

If that doesn't work after a couple applications, I hold them down to the ground with my hand on their back until they submit....again firmly enough to get the job done but not hurt them....add a few finger pecks and/or tug on the feathers on the back of their neck.

It definitely seems aggressive. I have never heard of pecking back. Still new to chickens. All is then were handled a lot is chicks and my daughter loves to pet and hold them now.

I will have to try that and see how it works. She makes me nervous and i don’t like that.

I tried a little bit of pecking this evening and was surprised that it seemed to work! Or started to anyways. It appears to be food driven possibly. The aggression was more intense and direct when i was changing food and refilling waters. And the other day i had the goats metal bowl, which their treat bowl is metal, in my hand when she charged across the yard.

I will continue to establish my place at the top of the pecking order and hopefully it will calm down.

Both my girls peck for attention or to clean me up if I kneel down and get grass on my knees. One time the girls were pecking and the rooster thought it was ok, I advised him that at no time should he peck me, so far so good..lol

The one in the picture I'm including is notorious for it and will do so if I have treats and put them on the ground, she prefers them out of my hand and looks at me like this...

Give her a gentle peck with your finger when she pecks you. Since hens peck to establish dominance, pecking her (maybe even do it once or twice when she isn’t pecking you) will let her know who is really in charge. Remember to be gentle! :) good luck!

Interesting! My friend had red toes in there the other day and was mauled! I had a speckled one on last week but took it off as an experiment. I thought that was a coincidence.

When she leads a charge though i am a good 50 feet away and she starts coming at me so my feet are not likely the issue when i am not in the coop.
Maybe they think that it is blood?

Now I just ran into this problem myself. I have an I S a Brown who is extremely bold. Can’t bend over without getting pecked in the back in the arm and well anywhere. I started packing her back gently but I think she seems to think it’s a game. Oh boy. I’m going to keep working with her
