i've had chickens for many years however one of my ex battery hens recently got to the bird seed and her crop became impacted so i gave her some warm olive oil and massaged it down, the next day her crop was empty but she wasnt intrested in any food i tried offering her all sorts ( cerals, natural yogurt, bread, mealworms which she was intrested in but then soon became bored, cheese, pear and grapes) so today i cooked her some scrambled eggs which she was intrested in but soon became bored her crop has very little in and she just stands huddled up shaking her head, ive mited her and the coop she also drinks excessively. what is wrong with her? and how can i get her eating again? shes very thin and lathargic! (yesterday i did syringe feed her some warm watery ready brek is this ok? and should i do it again today?)
many thanks!

I'm very sorry I can't help but wanted to welcome you to BYC. I hope you can find the information you need on some of the other boards, there are so many experienced folks here! I, however, am not one of them.

Good luck and again,

Hello and welcome to BYC

Have you got vitamin+electrolytes you can add to her water?

Do you know if anything has "passed" yet?? It could be she is a little backed up from it, try mixing a little molasses and water in a dropper for her.

Hope she gets better soon!!!

from washington state glad you joined us!
poor girl! sounds like you are doing the best you can. I would diffidently wouldn't give up on her and keep syringe feeding her. You can make a watery warm mash from her regular chicken food. I've done this before with supportive care and they survived. She also might of have a infection (respiratory) aspirated from a enlarged crop, antibiotics would be helpful. Excess water drinking can mean she has a temperature. I've seen this at our vet clinic. I hope she gets better!
