My chicken knew I was sad!!

Hi all, I just had to share this.
I was having a really bad hour today, i wont go into boring detail but When Id had enough I took my picnic blanket outside and lay under the pear tree.
I was lying there on my tummy and just watching the ducks playing with the bunnies, next thing "Blackie" my australorp, best friend chook came up and started to peck me gently on my tracksuit trouserleg, she then hopped up and sat on the back of my calf, she just sat there.
I had a giggle to myself, and I just lay there for a while and I told her how rotten i was feeling,
enjoying the feeling of her roosting on me, shes never done this before! Then she got up and came right up next to my face and just sat there next to me. She watched me and I watched her, I closed my eyes really slowly and told her how much I loved her and what a sweet chook she was, she also closed her eyes slowly then opened them again and we watched each other.
In all my years of sharing my life with chickens, I have never felt such a rapport with one.
This was such a special moment which I will never forget. She blessed me and I felt the weight lift off my shoulders.

Be very gentle to your chickens, they have a wonderful ability to heal!!!!

That nearly made me cry!! That's the sweetest thing!!!! Chickens must have gentle little souls....gawd, I need to really re-think my eating habits---vegetarianism sure is sounding better and better.... so glad you are feeling better and that our chicken therapist was around for an emergency session!

Thanks, I had tears welling as I was writing it.
It was such an amazing thing, it was one of those "you had to be there " moments.
Ill always look at them in a different way from now on. Her eyes were so close to mine that I could see this little line go straight across her eye then disappear when she closed and reopened it.

Id really like to size this pic of her for my latest Avatar!!!!!having probs again.

Well, heres some hints:
Tread gracefully and quietly yes, you can dance if you want, theyd love that!,
no screaming or sudden movements.
Smile at them, talk softly to them. yes you can sing if you like!!!nothing too crazy, they like country and blues stuff!
If you have meat birds DO NOT chop in front of them , they will know you are the enemy!!!
Honestly I hear people talking about skitty birds and yes, they know that they are eating their mates, so can you blame them???
anyhow, hot topic ,i wont go there.
They take a good few months to really trust you and it is in the genes too, some breeds just will not associate with us humans!!

I can't even read those threads about killing, in fact, I never go into those parts of this forum -- can't imagine what that would imprint on the little helpless chicken watching it, geez.............

I'm the same way as far as killing, that's why I don't get meat birds. I don't have the heart or stomach to do the deed.

Awww, Helen....what a great story. I RELY on chicken therapy sometimes. Yesterday..after the little rescues were found in the mail...I went out and sat in the new coop. Sugar, my white Langshan...walked to the door, and just looked at me..and cood, like a little dove. when I opened the door, she jumped in my lap, and went to sleep. Gotta LOVE chicken therapy. Somehow...they JUST KNOW!
