So 5 weeks ago I got 4 bitty baby chickies thinking that would be enough, and it was...for 2 weeks, then I got another bitty baby and was satisfied for 3 weeks and then on tuesday-ish got 2 more bittys and had to establish a separate brooder for them and then today got one more bitty baby! also today my friend brought me a bitty to foster for her! soooo cute!
5 weeks: Amapola-Easter Egger?, Calyx- Buff Orpington, Peony- Cuckoo Maran?, Periwinkle- Barred Rock?
3 weeks: Calliope- Black Australorp
4-5 days: Honeysuckle- Bearded D'uccle Bantam, Epiphany- Speckled Sussex
1-2 days: Our tiny yet to be named bitty- Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Foster Chicky- Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
Will post pics soon!

Hey! This is real chicken math... Beware, it gets complicated...

Lesson 1 Probability: If you get one, you will probably get more...

Lesson 2: Addition: If you add one, you will definitely add another, so no one is "lonely"

Lesson 3: Division: No matter your best intentions, you will need to divide your chickies into more individual groups than you originally anticipated, which won't work, so see Lesson #4 Multiplication

Lesson 4: Multiplication: Coops and brooders must multiply by 3, every 6 months.

Lesson 5: Algebra: X number of chickens will always produce Y number of chickens, of which Z amount will actually be claimed as "real" "countable" chickens.

Lesson 6: Calculus: If Z amount of chickens are not actual chickens, and only Y can equal Z, then R must equal two times S, which means A is less than B, ...and if A is less than B, then you still have room for more before you are considered a hoarder!!

Gotta love chicken math...

New to the site, and love to see the sense of humor everyone has. My chicken math started tonight with 8 new chicks from the local Rural King. (Who can really resist a $.50 chick?) So it goes something like this. 8 chicks ranging from a few days old to a few weeks old + approx. 20 weeks before laying assuming that we get a single female = no eggs until August. No eggs= grocery store trips + price of gas for driving + eggs= approx $20 per week. $20= at least one laying hen. So $20/wk for 20 weeks= enough money to buy 25 or so hens. Is that correct? Or is my chicken math off?

This makes me feel a whole lot better about my month.
3 months ago...Brought my favorite chicken with me when I moved.
2 months ago.....She was lonely so I got 3 more.
2 weeks later.....there was too many roosters so I got 4 more hens.
3 weeks later Decided I needed standards since all the above were banties, so got 6 standards...2 aracaunas, 4 australorps
4 weeks later went to the local feed store to buy rabbit hay and saw a crested!! Bought her but she needed a friend so she wouldn't be lonely, aracauna.
1 week ago found out about Marans and their nestle chocolate eggs and am on the hunt for black copper marans!
But have always loved Light Brahmas so am looking for a couple of those too!!
