My chicken.....purrs?

This is Big Red Hen .... because she's mean

. There is another hen off to the left who is wanting in the box. I had never heard one of my chickens make this sound before. Is this what people call "purring"?

Ethel did get in the box after awhile, didn't last long though. Big Red Hen isn't into sharing.

Broody. Your hen wants to hatch out some chicks! Even if there is no eggs under her or if they aren't fertile. Does she stay in the nesting box a lot? Peck you when you try to get the eggs? When you move her out, does she stay in the sitting postion? If she just growls, then she might just be a territorial nest-boxer and doesn't want anyone near her as she lays eggs. (I know I wouldn't!)
