My chicken ran away

Hello, about 40 min ago we realized one of our chickens went missing. We have 2, the other one was in the coop. We saw her about 20 min before she went missing. It was still a little bit light out too. She doesn’t ever venture off very far. We think she might have ventured to one of our neighbors houses and it was too dark to walk back so she slept there. Will she come back in the morning?

You may want to consider that she may have been taken by a predator.

We don’t believe it was a predator we were outside at the time we just weren’t paying enough attention.

It is still possible.

We once had a hawk take a chicken right in front of us. We’ve also had a fox take one while we were in the back yard.

If she's able, she'll most likely come back to the coop tomorrow. But if she's out overnight, it really is possible that a predator could get her before morning. Hopefully she'll be safe wherever she sleeps, and she'll be back in the morning looking for breakfast

We live in a city neighborhood so there aren’t many predators although we have seen a raccoon twice before.

Positive thoughts!

It wouldn't hurt to let your neighbor know, and walk around with a flashlight. She could be under the porch or in a tree, depending on the breed.

She won't move or be able to protect herself after dark, so this is the ideal time to look.
