Okay so I have had my 7 chickens for 5 weeks now, 4 RIR's, a Turken, a Black EE and a Leghorn mix. Yesterday all my chickens happily free ranged the yard as they usually do, but today when I opened the run up only 6 came out. One of my RIR's is acting a bit lethargic, when I go to pick her up she will get up and run away as usual but refuses to eat, drink or move around at all. her eyes look fine except she lays down and closes them, but it looks like her vent is contracting over and over. It almost looks like she is constipated. anyways it has been going on all morning and am curious what my game plan should be going forward. she is 9 months old and laid an egg just yesterday. Thanks everyone!

I would separate her for a while in a quiet place with food and water right in front of her. Maybe offer her some scrambled or hard boiled egg or some yogurt.

ok so I have separated her and am going to scramble an egg for her. she is in their pet carrier on my dining room table! now that i see her up close I can tell she is breathing hard but it doesn't sound unusual just breathing fast and heavy.

anything else??? I don't like to get freaky over an animals illness but I have grown quite fond of them all!

Time will tell. If she is still ailing tomorrow, try some vitamins. Polyvisol (no iron) is good. Just put a couple drops on her beak every day. Good luck. I don't know what else to suggest at this point.
