My chicken sang the egg song!

I'm trying to find out too, couple of my hens started squawking and carrying on but I thought maybe their was a preditor around & the the rooster started in with her?

It has been described, in this thread, as anything and everything. It seems to be an indication that an egg will be coming soon. Other factors that I've noticed are good tail feathers, decent combs, broad backsides, and the submissive squat. My ladies talk to me everytime I come near, mostly because they believe in their little heart of hearts that I will bring them something good to eat . . . or let them out to chase grasshoppers and crickets. I have yet to identify "the song," but others are convinced. BTW, welcome to BYC. It's a fun place to be.

I just read the last 15 pages or so only to realize that IF my chickens are practising their egg song right at the moment I am not there to witness it. My work schedule would allow me to hear it every 3 weeks. I work 17 days and get 4 off. SO for all I know they could have been practising for the last week (my last days off ended a week ago_) and I don't know about it.

Sucks that I leave home at 5:30 am and come back at 630pm.

Glad I am off early on Sundays!!Maybe I'll get to hear it today?

My first three hens never practised the egg song until they had started laying but since adding more to the family the others practised before they started as they join in with the first three. You may not be missing it they may just not of figured out they can sing a special song yet :)

I got my first EE Egg yesterday. She is 21 weeks old, her name is Gibi. I knew she was close because her comb turned Flaming red and grew substantially. But she does NOT sing at all. My two white leghorns make the most noise. They sing before and after laying the egg ........ EVERY TIME..... they lay an egg.

Congrats! Beautiful egg! Your EE looks a lot like mine, she is the same age, hoping for her first egg soon.
