I thought I would share pics of my new coop and my flock. I started off with a small coop for a few chickens my kids brought home from the neighbors. We lost two early to predators not locking the coop at night. The chickens that the kids brought home where silkies and polish. I wanted eggs so we hit the fall chick days at TSC and the rest is history. The chicks grew fast and I quickly realized my coop was nowhere near big enough for the 14 new girls RIR and ISA Browns. I decided to convert a covered area I had since three of the four sides and the roof was covered. We live in Louisiana so no need to worry about frigid temps in the winter.
This is my water supply. It's not running yet. I have a few leaks to address.
The roost
Everything from the top of the fence to the roof is chickenwire. The bottom 3 ft is either cage wire or hardware cloth. You can see the backside of the first coop in this pic.
These are my nesting boxes. Behind them is the access door. I think I will put two more nesting boxes on top if I need more. I have 12 hens. I don't have anybody laying yet so the access door isn't finished
This is the front side of the coop and the only real "wall I had to build. Same as the back side from the top of the wooden fence to the roof is chicken wire.
This is the front side of the first coop. I may take the metal off the front and replace it with cage wire and make it a rabbit hutch.
Tell me what you think. How can I improve it to make it awesome?
