Hello,

Yesterday a tiny dog had got to one of my chickens. I found her laying in the grass with yolk style stuff near her butt. Not moving, on one side. Panting none stop. I put her back in the coop on some hay and tried giving her some water and food but she didnt even flintch.

This morning she had stopped panting but still laying on her side. Not eating or drinking either. I tried picking her up to put her on her feet but she just drops and to that one side again, seemed that one side had a tiny bit of strength.

I can only assume shes got a broken leg or still in shock?

Please give me your ideas!

Thank you.

So sorry this happened.I would bring her inside.Crate or pet cage. Some electrolytes.Maybe a warm soak.Splint or tape up the leg.Hope she makes it.

Could also be suffering nerve damage from bites directed at back. Chickens seem more capable of recovering than us from such injuries. Watch infections around puncture wounds. Minimize handling when placing water our for her. To get real test for appettite, offer her some live mealworms in a small dish. Live food items stimulate appettite better than inanimate feeds plus likely taste better.
