Not sure what to do. Our chicken got stepped on by a running horse. There is no blood, we think it’s her leg. We put her in a kennel and going to see how she is over night. She is eating and drinking, she just won’t stand up. Any suggestions?

Did you see it happen? Where did the horse hit/step on her? Add electrolytes in her water or apple cider vinegar for a boost. Is she eating/drinking okay? Does it feel like she has any broken bones, if you post pressure on certain areas does she flinch or squeal, as a sign of a broken bone?

X2, was it witnessed, or did you find her injured? Can you look for any redness, green bruising, cuts, or swelling in the entire leg? How old is your chicken? Let us know how she is doing in the morning, and make sure that she is close to food and water. Pictures tomorrow can also help.

I didn’t see it happen. My husband did. He tried to get her out of the way. We had friends over tonight he is a doctor as well as raises chickens. He checked her out and said nothing was broken. A little abrasion on her foot. Treat it with bacitracin he said. She is covered up with water and food. Will check on her first thing in the morning. He believes she’ll be fine. We got her in May. She was already laying my guess 2 years old. She is some type of hybrid. Thanks for all get suggestions. I will post a picture tomorrow.

Just wait and see how she does. Feel the leg and see if anything is broken, If it is, you can splint it. If it isn't broken she is probably just badly bruised and she should be better in a few days.

Glad you were able to have her checked out more, hopefully she will recover soon.
