Today was a windy blustery day with 40mph gusts, sure they were getting blown sideways as they top out right now at 4 pounds(4.5 when fully mature), but, several of them were walking backwards as I suppose they didn't want to mess up their hair and have that wind flipping their tail and hackles forward from behind. We have absolutely no idea if they were getting blown backwards from the feeder to the water point and just played it off like that was where they were going anyway, or if this was intentional. It sure looked intentional and we got so many laughs watching them free ranging in the wind.
Regardless, I did a forum search and most of the walking backwards hits I received were illness related. We don't suspect that in the least once the winds settled a bit this evening the behavior went away. Combs are appropriate colors and they were foraging until 10 minutes after sundown before they headed off to the roosts. Everyone has clear eyes and full crops and the usual gals are all doing the rub my butt squats since there ain't no man around!
