My Chickens are 8 months old-still no EGGS!

Quote:
I'm certainly no expert, but I switched mine at about the 16 week timeframe.(person at feed store recommended it) They did fine.

ETA: I was buying 50 lb sacks, and I had run out. Didn't want to waste some of the feed if I got another 50 lbs.

Dear Fordmommy, I thought my chickens were gorgeous until I saw yours-she's a beauty!! Thanks for replying guys-it's good to know that they might not be as old as I was told. I was ready to bring in a chicken psychiatrist! I was told to put my hens on laying crumble at 18 weeks, but I'm VERY new to all this!

You'll be happy once they get going. They are awesome layers. I used to have them and switched to another breed for something new. They are by far one of the best breeds for laying. I'll be going back to them again. Will
p.s. I agree that they were younger than you were told.

I should update. After I replied to your post, I went out to check for eggs for the millionth time, And she laid one. It was the prettiest egg I ever saw. But I don't know her age exactly. They just told me she hatched in March sometime.

She was acting anxious all day, too. I knew it had to be soon. In and out of the coop. Scratching in the bedding. Looking in corners. She even put it in the nesting box. (But not the one I put her in)

I know everyone says it. "They will come soon." And I hated to hear that too. I wanted eggs NOW! But it will. And I still have to wait for the other 5 chickens to lay. I swear. I spend my WHOLE LIFE waiting.

They look about 4 months to me. I have 2 BOs and 2 Australorps - all 5 months old, and one of each started laying very recently.
