My chickens are not normal chickens I believe. They will eat anything, but are afraid of worms.
Now I started out just having ducks, and I would constantly dig for worms with them in my yard. The second I would grab my hoe and shovel they would start happily quacking/screaming/running towards me. Worms from mother they didn't have to work for. Yes they are spoiled. I would also buy them live worms too.
Now I have geese and chickens as well.
Started out with 4 chickens and now I have a nice even 35. (My absolute limit!)
Now when they were young little pullets and cockerels I thought it was normal for them to be afraid of worms because they were still so small. But now I have chickens that are 3 years old and younger all the way down to babies. And NO ONE will eat a live worm.
The worms actually frighten them.
My geese are even more scared of worms when they see them move. Wth
Is this normal?!?!
Thank you in advance, I'm a very concerned fowl mom that's worrying I created chicken chickens!

Chickens can be afraid of any new food. There is an inherent gene in all of them, what they ate yesterday did not kill them, so keep eating what ever that was and avoid everything else, eating something new could kill them. Especially young birds under a year old, they are extremely leery.

They will follow suit however and if one gets brave enough to try something, generally the others will also indulge.

Give your birds time, eventually they will eat you out of house and home. :D

Maybe worms aren't good for chickens I could be wrong . but I do know that if you feed baby birds like sparrows or some other song birds worms it can be fatal to their health. Unlike robins where that's all they eat it worms.

Yes that's true my game fowl recently started flying up into the tree to eat the berries off the branches.

My chickens get excited when I start to dig and plant my vegetable garden, they expect me to show them where the worms are!! I have just ordinary Rhode Island Reds, Silver Laced Wyandottes and Barred Rock hens. They scratch around my garden and get vocal when they find any kind of bug, it's their favorite activity!
