So my girls have turned one years old, they need a ladder now to better get up and down from their perch in the coop to help their poor little feet, so I installed one last night out of materials they are already familiar with but it freaked them out a bit and there was a refusal to go inside to bed at first, now this morning they act all skittish and a little stand-offish so I get a bit exacerbated with their inability to acept minor changes

What stories so you have of your chickens being..... well chicken Lol

You do not need the extra stuff, they have wings for a reason, what makes you their feet hurt.

Secondly,I once had a turtle scare the crap out my hens, they took out on me.I just hand fed them, and picked them up and soon within a few minutes everybody was fine.

jumping up and down takes a toll on them as they get round and chunky they land wrong and to help prevent those little limping that goes on for a few minutes i put up a ladder so they could walk up and down from the perch.

they don't like the ladder but they'll use a brick to stand up on and then jump on the perch but jumping down, is different for them and many don't like to do it. :)

i figured it couldn't be just my girls that think everything that scares them is my fault lol

who else?

Jumping down may be fine depending on how high the roost is, how big the coop is, and what you have for bedding. A ladder can be good for going up abut not so good for coming down

Adding a ramp can be good, if it's built in a good configuration but they also take up too much space in coop.

Pics of coop, roosts, ladder, would help here.

Adding anything new to the coop will freak them out for a few days, they don't like change.

thanks for your offer of help, i wasn't really looking for help on it just a funny story and was curious as to others chickens behaviours

sometimes i think i have the most chicken of chickens lol
