My dear mother-in-law sneered at me that "chickens are stupid" - I don't think she could be more wrong! My chickens are pretty smart. I wanted my chickens to be free range. I envisioned them fanning out over our 40 acres happily eating grass and chasing bugs. Instead they parked on my lawn furniture and demanded treats and then discovered the cat food in the garage where they would gleefully run and happily munch from the cat's dishes.
When I shut the garage door to save the cat food - my chickens left our property, marched up the road and went into the NEIGHBOR'S garage looking for catfood. Embarrased, I put up poultry fence and now they are pastured. Still I had to admire their logic.
They connected garages to cat food and found another garage!
