children are to a pinata at a 6 year olds birthday party.

i dumped out a box of 20 crickets and all the chickens scrambled and gobbled them up in seconds. it was funny to watch. i think i am gonna do that once a week now.

crickets are 20 for $1 at the pet store down the street.

I use crickets for fish bait. Left overs always go to the chickens. Talk about a mad scramble riot.

I've done this a couple of times. My chickens love it. Or, I'll take them to my compost heap (traditionally, a no-no place for my chickens) and turn over part of the heap and let them go crazy on the bugs, roaches, etc.

When I turn my compost piles I find tons of grubs. I collect them and feed them to the birds. They go nuts.

My DH and I flip crickets in the pen one at a time. It is a ton of fun to watch them!

I see quite a few crickets here, is there a way to trap them - so I can feed them to the chickens in the run??

When my guys were smaller and stayed 24-7 in the pen,we'd just catch the crickets/grasshoppers with our hands and throw them in the pen. The kids loved doing this. They's spend all their time outside catching bugs for the chickens. Now that they are free ranging,we still catch bugs and call them to us and they'll eat the bug right out of our hand.

My flock of 14 can finish off an entire bag of 48 crickets in less than two minutes! I dump the crickets in the coop to help ensure none get away, and they are definitely a fav treat!

We have tons of grasshoppers around here...wish there was a good way to round them up to let loose in the coop. I don't think the giant green pond frog (not kidding--at least the size of my hand) that I found in the coop last night will be as enticing! That thing was almost scary! LOL!
