I was out today cleaning coops, i currently have 1 banty roo and his 2 ladies in a kennel beside the coop, i was cleaning the kennel and decided to move it and sew grass there , upon moving it, about 4 mice flew out from under kennel, as i was watching them i noticed my girls ran over to the middle of the bare spot , a mice nest was there in the ground, a hen grabbed a lil baby and took off with it, I had on gloves so i hurried and scooped up the other 6 baby mice, about that time i see my SLW in the coop with a mouse all the others running after her, i put baby mice in a lil box and ran in chased down SLW and got that mouse away from her, which was dead, but i looked all over for that other lil baby mouse and i fear my hen ate it, there very tiny eyes aren't open but they have fur, Do chickens eat mice???? This happen so fast it freaked me out...the lil neighbor girl was here so i couldn't kill the babys uggh so i brought them inside , i didn't want her to see me dispose of them, i don't think they will live without there mother, what should i do with them???????

Makes me wonder if mice taste like chicken?

Might be a little insensitive, but I'd probably give the mice to the chickens. I certainly wouldn't want them to grow up. Good of you to spare the kid.

Chickens eat meat = other animals (and other chickens). The are omnivores meaning they eat plants and animals.

They love mice, lizard, frogs, worms, small snakes, juicey bugs, maggots, flies, dead things, meat scraps from your kitchen and much much more. My husband loves to catch barn mice and feed them to the roosters. It makes me shiver when I see a big fat hen with a mouse tail hanging out of her beak. LOL

I've seen other posts about chickens eating mice, and there are Youtube videos showing chickens eating mice. So, I think it's pretty normal. Most animals (omnivores or carnivores) will eat any animal that will fit in their mouth!

EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeekk , for real? feed the baby mice to the chickens? I knew they eat worms, bugs kitchen scraps etc but MICE? .......my skin is still crawling , I'm not at all intrested in raising baby mice lol but yall sure they won't make my chickens sick?

Sound like a normal behavior to me. Gross as it may seem. but there probably doing you a favor. Chances are they aren't the first mice theyve come across, just the first youve seen them get!
