My chickens don't like snow!

NancyinAlaska, that hen in the center of your picture, the reddish brown one with the grey fluffy feathers, she is beautiful, what kind of chicken is she?

toss a little hay/straw on the ground and they will appreciate it

Update:

This morning I raked out the run as best I could, brushed the snow off of the ramp to the henhouse, and put a bunch of straw in the run. I opened the pop door, and...out came my chickens! Probably helps that today is sunny and not snowy like yesterday. The girls did seem very hungry and thirsty. Now, my only concern is that my BO sneezed (at least I think that's what it was) a few times. How worried should I be about this? She is eating and looks fine and I think she's the one that laid the egg I found in the nest box today. Should I do something for her?

Second update:

Someone started laying today! I guess the snow shocked her into it. Went back out to the coop after sledding and their was an egg in the run. Neither of my 2 layers do that. Also, my BO already laid an egg this morning and my BA's egg looks different. I think it was my little RIR.

Hi, I noticed that my chickens didn't want to step in the snow, and they stayed in the coop until the snow started to melt some in the sun.. I decided to move there chicken feed and water into the coop so they wouldn't go hungry or thirsty. I read online that chickens get quite stressed when there is snow covering the ground and my chickens had never seen it before... It's like they say "what is this white stuff, what do we do now, where is the ground!" Silly birds!

I asked my DH if he would roof my run.so my hens would stay dry.Thank goodness he did because my hens do not like rain or snow.In the fall we wrapped their runs with heavy Gage plastic. They also have adjoining runs that have wire tops and that way they can go outside in dry weather.
