My chickens hate me :(

Sit quietly in the run. Hold raisins or some really tasty treat in your hands. Hold pieces up like you're really checking those raisins out. Ignore your chicks as they watch. If anyone comes close to see what you have, just slowly lay a few on your lap where they can see. Don't try to pet them or anything, just draw them to you. Within a few days they will be running to you, and several will hop up on your lap to grab treats...go from there.

Treats are the winner. Mine were that way at first too. Now they see me coming and scratch at the gate like a dog paws a door. I still have 1 (my leghorn Ruby) that won't let me touch her or nor will she come and eat out of my hand. She's still skittish. Some breeds are that way it seems and no matter what you do nothing will change that. Be patient and lots of treats they should come around.

and enjoy.

My year old hens are devoted to us: they come when they hear someone coming - it is very cute- and of course treats did the trick. However, my "new" 8 week old chicks are much shyer, run away, and don't like any treats! What treats do youngsters like? I have tried yogurt, strawberries, cracked corn - all the things the older girls love - but the babies are not interested in anything but their finisher feed, grit and even oyster shell. Any ideas?

Yogurt! One of our BSL is such a pig! Our chicks are 8 weeks old and one of the BLS chicks sooo loves plain yogurt all she needs to see is the little cup and she runs whereever it is to get some. Yesterday I had to push her away because she stuck her head in in twice up to her eyes! She is way old enough to know better

The only other things they like better is cooked noodles. Stupid crazy birds.. gotta love them

I just gave my six girls their first treats yesterday. Grape tomatos and the basil leaves I pinched for new growth. They loved the tomatos, and kind of ignored the basil. They have also eaten all the mint that grows in their run and every leaf off the blueberry and blackberry bushes. Guess no berries for us this year.

My chickens are anti basil as well, both sets. Hmm. However, the girls love grapes, plain oatmeal and yogurt, ramen noodles (absolutely go nuts), meal worms, found bugs and my newest mixture is a scrambled egg mixed with carrot shavings and sunflower seeds.
