my chickens hate snow!

I'm going to shovel too when the snow comes!

Does anyone know at what temperature I have to dress them up in woolies and bootties or take them in beside the fire?

My coop is too far away for electricity, I've insulated with hay, but I'm still worried as your cold weather is reaching us here in Scotland, it has just reached minus 5 degrees C.

Thanks all

Oh yes! Lots of run shoveling! I collected bags of leaves in town and throw a bag in the run when it snows. They are really surprised when they fly and land in a pile of snow. I usually have to rescue them.

I had to shovel paths for them...ALL over the yard. They didn't mind that. It was quite funny to see them walk in single file. I guess when it comes to snow any and all sibling rivalry is forgotten...for a while. LOL!

I had quite the maze set up for them. It was funny, they NEVER, not once...go into the snow.

Yes, I spoil my birds! LOL!

Peace-

Mine came out today and yesterday. But on Saturday only 2 came out when I opened it. It was snowing here.

The poor things...their food and water are outside. (coop is too small)

I have my run covered about 80% with a tarp... they do go stand in the little bit of snow on the far side, then they stand on ONE LEG - its FUNNY!

And they EAT the snow - it looks like they're drinking - they take a little and put their head back a bit to swallow - they seem to like it!

peepkeeper that picture sums up the last few days exactly!haha. The hay idea is a great one-I'll try it tomorrow.

Here in RI, I wish I had shoveled out some more of the run area before we got the 4 inches of freezing rain and sleet and then temps in the 20's and teens (farenheit that is for Millymolly mandy). It would take a pick-ax to get through it now. :|

I have a small raised coop that I have covered on 3 sides with hay bales so sometimes I reach in and pull them out of the coop and put them under it just so they get a little more breathing room, but they are definitely not going anywhere near the hard frozen stuff and I can't say I blame them. It's not even Jan. yet.

I repeatedly shoveled out my 8 X 12 run, cleared the snow and ice off the tarp roof, and shoveled an 8 X 12 area outside the run. We've only had a good solid week of winter weather with 3 more months to go. Whew!
