My chickens have an aversion to light.

I put a light in the pen. We had a heat lamp for them when it got really cold last week. So i replaced the heat bulb with a squirly bulb.. I think it is 65 watt equivelent..

Anyway I did this yesterday.. I got three eggs today.. Normally I at least get 6 a day..

Any advice on this one

Chickens hate changes. Repeat 10 times. Its what I have had to learn the hard way. I had a heat light on their waterer for 2 months to prevent freezing they were fine. I cut it off in warm weather they quit laying over night. then they layed soft shelled eggs for two days then none. I cut the light back on and everything has worked well since. I moved them to a new coop. they refused to go for two nights on their own. Chickens hate changes. They will adapt eventually relax. jean

What my chickens are telling me is that there are really spoiled chickens down in Florida, that it's inhumane to even think of letting them live in an unheated Maine coop when temps drop below zero like they just did. They're telling me that if they can't have enough electricity to power the tanning salon they're planning to install (they're buff-colored already for crying out loud!) or if I don't install the wide-screen TV so they can watch the latest Chicken Scene Investigators (CSI) then they will go on strike in soidarity with their Southern Sisters.

Do us all a favor and pull the plug. It's warm down there. That's why old Mainers move there.

Funny... today mine were running around in the snow while i remodelled... it was 15 degrees out with a light breeze all day probably putting us at single digits...

well it was 28 degrees and my coop is very drafty.. chicken wire all across the top for ventalation.. LOL
And the lamp is more to keep the water from freezing ...

half of my polish dont have head feathers from it raining, and then getting their odd looking wet head feathers eaten by the other ladies. and the Cochin had a naked booty from me trimming the poo and the others also seeing that there is something different about her decided I didnt do it well enough and finished off the job.

But the pool cockeral says hello
