My chickens have completely taken over my life!

Welcome to BYC! If you bought straight run chicks, and I assume you did since they are mixed breeds, its unlikely that they all will be pullets. Do you have a plan for dealing with additional cockerels? You may at the very least, want to be prepared with housing for them so your flock doesn't get stressed.

Greetings & Salutations. Welcome.

Hopefully you have pullets but the odds are that you will have some cockerels. In our recent hatch of 15, 4-6 are cockerels. In a hatch of 7, with a broody, 5 were cockerels. As janiedoe wrote, plan on what you will do with extra cockerels.

This is a wonderful site on which to Learn and enjoy.
We are pleased to have you in the community.

Thanks everyone!
We actually had 14 (!) baby chicks come to live with us at 2 weeks of age. A family member had gotten eggs to hatch with her kids and asked me if I would take them after. I should have asked her just how many she was hatching! We have rehomed the ones that were obvious cockerels.
There’s two pullets in the group we kept that I am starting to think may in fact be cockerels. I will have to get some pictures to post in the help thread.

Congrats on the chicks!

I think you said some are 8 weeks old and members can probably give you a good idea of the sex, after looking at pictures.
