Dont show my chickens this! There will be rioting in the land!
Mine has linolium on the floor and my DH thought I was askin too much! Nice work. It is truely beautiful.
It started out being rather simple, but snowballed out of control. I wanted it to be a bright, cheerful place for them since they'll spend so much time in it; and, I hope, happy hens lay more eggs.
I've thrown out all the receipts 'cause I don't want to know how much it cost to build, but I can say it was way more than a sensible person spend.
It is built in such a way that I can hose it out with water and not worry about getting the insulation wet - the whole thing waterproof from the inside as well as the outside.
The window casing, chair rail and corner moulding are plastic. The window jambs are oak plywood strips.
The chickens do sit on the window sill and look outside, and yes the sills do get messy from time to time, but they enjoy looking out the window so much I haven't done anything to discourage them. I have added a roost which is higher than the sills, so maybe they'll use that more.
For what it is worth, it is much nicer than my house. For one, they have heat. When I first get out there after work, I start a fire in the woodstove in my house and go hang out with the chickens where it is warm. The walls and floor of my house are unfinished and only a few lights and outlets are hooked up.
