My chickens jump the fence!

What breed are they. Many breeds can actually jump/fly higher as adolescents than as adults. Once they fill out to their adult weight they are too heavy to reach the heights.
Other breeds however only get better at flying and you have 4 choices.
Free range.
Build really talk fences
Cover your run, either solid or netting.

Are you guys clipping just one wing or both?

The goal is to make them unbalanced when they try to fly, so you clip primary flight feathers on one wing. If you clip both wings they stay balanced but just generate less lift, which can still be enough to get over a fence depending on the bird and fence.

Thanks for the tips everyone

. My chickens are still about 7 weeks old and I think they might be andalusian.

yea like 4-h birds typically cant be clipped since they do poultry shows, compititions etc to show off which bird best represents the particular breed

I have netting over my run to keep them in and hawks out. I bought it at Lowe's and it's to go over fruit trees to keep birds off the fruit! It's worked great for over a year.getting ready to put more over a new run. Still may clip wings on the new pullets till they're used to it.
