Sorry, but no the rooster didnt kill the cooper, Bird of prey are full size when they leave the nest. The larger redtail will kill coopers and take their prey(eat it on the spot). Have seen my peacocks and game roosters attack coopers, but they fly away. Just think how would a rooster hold a cooper to kill it. Its take sometime for a rooster to kill another rooster, even if they dont run.

The coopers prey on mostly birds,

Noooo! I hate hawks!
I had a favorite hen killed by a hawk a few years back, along with an EE rooster that tried to save her life...
I'm sorry for your loss. I watched the video of your pen and that would be a very difficult area to cover with wire, atleast that's what I believe. I'm sure it could be done...

Don't waste your money on the bird/berry netting for winter where you get snow and ice. It gets iced up and falls. I switched to large 2 inch chicken wire for over my run area. If you can't get that up string fishing line from your roof to nearby trees and bushes. Hang a few old CDs hear and there. The plastic owls don't work-even those with the battery eyes. Have your air horn handy and keep those roos. I also have guineas, but have had a eagle pick one of them up and drop it. Bird was fine but had a story to tell when I got her back with the flock. Come spring look at a better solution.

Hawks are geting to be so bad every wer . Sorry about your hen. I got some neting at a fleamarket it came from a batters cage at a ballpark. You mite check at one by you. The guy i bot it from got me some more from a budy of his that workd at another school. They had just put up new.

i am pretty sure the bigger bird up in the air, is circling around till you leave, mostly only if they spotted something there interested in, and fly back down for the meal, or it could have killed the hawk that is poaching on its territory.

since hawk do scavenger meals if it means they don't need to hunt for, and i am pretty sure, you standing there would prevent it from coming down.
