my chickens really want to sleep in the nest box

my 2 girls are 8 months old and love to sleep in the nest box...if not that then on top of each other wedged between the nest box and the door.
they have never slept on the roost. tonight they actually managed to turn the nest box around by them selves (I try and turn the opening toward the wall so they can't get into it every night.)

do you have a flat surface for them to roost on? One of my girls prefers to roost on a "shelf" than on a round pole.
