My roosting area for my 17 Wyandottes is about 8' by 10'. Then there is another building built on the east side of this roosting area, and that is where their nesting boxes are. The area of this building where they nest is about 10' by 10'. Aside from these two areas inside they have a run outside of about 5' by 15'. They have been shut in this area ever since I bought them from a hatchery last May.
About a month ago, I had some kind of a critter getting into their pen, and I lost three birds before I figured out the problem and fixed it; however, they didn't want to go back in at night before this invader started bothering them either. Now here it is a month later, and I turned them out this evening for the first time since my critter problem, but it's still the same old thing. They don't even try to go back in. They will not even congregate around the door at sundown. They are all around the chicken house, and out in the yard.
Questions:
When you say I should shut them in, do you mean that I should not give them access to the run or do you mean to free range?
Will driving them in get them to the place where they can do it on their own?
Is there much of a market for dumb Wyandottes?
