Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

Why are they such divas?
No reason in particular, just asking.

Tonight I was kind enough to crack three eggs for Dougie and Sprightly, they devoured the shells and then Dougie also ate the yolks-- full dino style-- You'd think they would be satisfied, but no. Sprightly proceeded to walk up to my partner who was mucking out the coop, and nibble at his legs.

Now, you won't believe this, but this girl knows how to signal, direct communication. She dips her beak politely to say she wants something. Sometimes she does this next to an empty food bucket, other times she does is asked what she wants, and leads us to the egg box or mealworm tub for a treat... So naturally, she was dipping her beak at him persistently inbetween leg nibbles. I didn't need to ask, she was requesting more eggs. Three will not satisfy these birds, they want all of them!
I just love how they embody weaponized incompetence. One moment they’re painfully dim, can’t function at all without constant supervision and assistance, but the next they’re expertly dictating exactly what it is they want down to the finest detail.

I think my partners family were a little concerned today, it's that time of year... the sun comes out, the flowers bloom... and the ducks start surfing.
Feathers being yanked, heads being stomped on. You know, full on romance. Rest assured, the "aggression" is fully mutual and consensual, no need to worry :gig

Ah I love ducks.

Does anyone else get scolded at bed time every night?

"It is growing dark and we have yet to be tended to. Time to scream our disaproval until mother, father, or the neighbours come forward to put us to bed!" - Dougie and Sprightly every freaking day :gig

Sometimes I have to lock them up early just because they've decided it's time for bed and demand to be escorted in for the night. Like, I'm sorry children that the sun has gone behind a cloud, you could have stayed out for another half an hour... But nooo. :idunno

Mine are the opposite most nights. They want to stay out and experience the “night life.”

Their coop isn't anything special, it really doesn't make sense, but if they are not shut away mid sunset they will protest! I think it's mostly Dougie, she loves her strict routine...
