I am so very sorry to hear of your losses

Living in Aus where we do not really do winter, I am unable to assist with your question, but if you answer the questions above from other members, they will be able to help you out.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. A couple of discussions are keeping chickens in extreme weather conditions and winter chicken keeping which you might find helpful.

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

for very young chickens you need a shallow container for water, with clean pebbles or marbles in it. This safeguards that the little , unsteady chickens don't fall in face first and drown.
