Yes once they get pasty butt if not cleaned off every day they won't gain weight and will die off.
Just keep them clean as everyone said and run that light for them so they don't have to struggle to stay warm (they need heat until fully feathered, usually around 6 weeks but in winter I run the light longer).
If they look fluffed up and won't eat or drink, lethargic with diarrhea or bloody poo, it could be coccidiosis.
Pasty butt is common and it is a daily chore to clean it off. Eventually they will get over it though.
