My chicks are in trouble

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Typically City and Town ordinances for the residential zone in which you reside trump all. You can have further restrictions attached to the deed of a property that moves with each transfer of ownership as well. It is always best to make sure you can have livestock before acquiring it. I'm sorry for your circumstances.

Hello, I am from Niles, Michigan and my city has ordinances for chickens. I got a notice today that I have to remove my chickens and file for a permit. But it says my property does not fit the guidelines for having chickens. They are in a run and have a brand new coop. It doesn’t say why but I’m sure it’s because they are not 100ft away from the alley behind our property. I have them strictly for egg production for my family. They are only 7 weeks old right now and we just love watching them! I heard there is a homestead law that protects us from city ordinances. I seen a post on here about it but the links error out. Anyone from this area or know more about the Michigan laws? Any help is appreciated, thank you!!

Don't comply! It's the only thing we can do. Civil Disobedience.

Remember those great men who founded our country. John Hancock signed his own death warrant so big and boldly that everyone still knows what his signature looks like. They risked their fortunes and comfortable lives over far less government overreach than this.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BIRDS!
