Quote:I've discovered that chicks are a lot like children. They DO like structure and routine and they DON'T like changes and can be scared of the slightest thing. I'm glad you figured out what had them so upset.
My two 2 week old coachins just came in from the outside hen house and were chirpin like crazy (first time away from mom) as it got later in the evening. Once I put my hand in the box (cupped) they went right under it - like protection/shelter. So, I put a winter hat in there and rigged it so just top would always stay propped open and they could go in and out. Well, they went right in, got situated and started Cooing/purring. Very happy and QUIET! Maybe yours just needs to feel protected???
i once had a chick who peeped all night long only the first night now she is a big girl running around the coop!
well that would explain my one chick...I heard him chirping....I went to watch it with out it seeing me. He just stood in the bunch...chirping so loud. However now I think of it after reading these posts..... I had put a new feeder in the pen. It must have been what was bothering it. lol....silly chickens
