For those of us with small yards that we would like (need to) to keep neat, I recommend the Bio-orb. It's a big black ball that you fill with compostable stuff and roll it around the yard to mix. I've just got mine...but I love it! And I'm looking forward to rolling it to my garden this spring and unloading my compost!

I started with pine shavings but was not happy with them. Went to Equine pellets but they turned to sawdust when the waterer spilled. Then I tried sand...it worked great. When they went from the brooder to the Chicken-n-Hutch, I used sand in the tray. Was very easy to remove the poo each day so no bad odors...the sand totally dried out the poo.

They are now in their coop/run and I have sand on the poo board under the roosts. Each morning I use a sifter and trowel to clean the poo board, takes just a lil while each morning. Today we spread 3" deep sand (possibly deeper in some areas) over the floor of the coop/run. Thus far they have been working their poo into the dirt floor with the leftover greens I provide daily. Expect the sand will dry out their poo and any water drips or rain that might dampen the floor.

The poo goes in a compost pile with whatever carbon I can find so it doesn't smell.

Not quite as cool as the Bioorb but might be available in your area....
