Good evening all,

My chicks came in Tuesday afternoon. All eight were in great shape. Drank H2O right off and all ran over to the feeder when I placed it in their brooder. I thought I'd have to show them, but I was wrong. They are all characters. I have one that seems braver than the others and comes over to my hand cautiously. One out of them moonwalks. Normal in every way, just shuffles backwards 3 steps and jets off.
I now know why chickens have a toe in the back. So they don't fall backwards when they fall asleep standing up. I've had two escapees so far. One jumped over the plastic pool I have set up in my shower stall while I was changing the paper towels. (Only place I had to hang my heat lamp). Also added security and warmth with the shower door closed. Quite upset when she realized that stunt was not a good idea. Second one jumped out while I was gone. Soon as I opened the back door, I knew something was wrong. Evidently she didn't get the memo, that being alone was scary.
Started my chicken coop and like to only work in the morning as the temp gets very uncomfortable in the afternoon.
Oh and I believed you all when you said they grow fast, but wing feathers? (tiny but I swear they were not there yesterday!)
I have one joker who thinks it's a hoot to peck at nothing just so the others will run over, then stands back. I believe I've seen a smile on her face.
Had my RIR chick curl up in my hand and burrow in to fall asleep. So pleased with these babies, I disturb them numerous times a day to check on them.

I have a Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, Delaware, Cuckoo Maranas, Golden Laced Wyandotte, RIR & an unknown. (I think the Cuckoo is the jokester).
