My 3.5 week chicks are in their brooder with wire top, no heat just a wool hen and outside. When it gets to night time they start to chirp, some go to the wool hen most sit on top of the wool hen and chirp.

I have blanket thay I put on the brooder when they were young to help with heat, when I put it on now they quiet down and go under the wool hen... They need a blanky!

I plan on putting them into their coop soon. Should I stop putting the blanket on?

Never heard of a wool hen. Do you have a pic? I wanna see 😃

How cold does it get over there? At 3-4 weeks they need temps to be 75-80 degrees.

Is there a reason you didn’t try a brooder plate or heat lamp?

I would be worried about those chicks.
It sounds like they don't have enough warmth. Chicks die very easily from the cold. It sounds like they don't have enough warmth.
I also want to see this wool hen. 👀

Below is a picture of the wool hen, not a good one. It's a styrofoam box with plastic wrap and strips of fleece hung from ceiling. Under it was a (reptile) heat plate that I turned off yesterday.

Temp wise it's down to 15degrees Celcius at night. In the box it heats up over 30s when they in there.

When I say chirp it's not load, just enough to say hey I am not sleeping and where is everyone 🙂

The second pic is them exploring their coop while I work. (6 days ago)

So with or without the blanket it heats up to over 30 celsius? Or is that temp depended on how many chicks go inside?
