My city changed their laws...

I used to buy the large boxes at Walmart also. For just myself it was cheaper to get the white and toss the yolk than buy whites in the carton. I'd eat one egg and 3 whites for breakfast and a lot of times one egg and 2 whites before bed (I love the gym, hate protein shakes lol) so eating 5 dozen could be done easy for me lol My husband now will eat my yolks and then sometimes scramble up 6-7 eggs at a time for breakfast-dinner, it's crazy! But eggs go fast in this house so I can definitely see eating 5 dozen for 4-5 people easy lol

i have to double check

smiths?  i don't know this one

we do have safeway, albertson, basha, fry's, sprouts, wal-mart, wincos, etc..

eggs are only good for about 20-30 days after purchase right or maybe less?

backyard eggs probably longer?

Yeah the ones from the store will last about a week shelf life. But like i said, family of 6 and my kids are all boys, they go way too fast. The chickens give me about a dozen a day and that definitely helps.

If you leave the bloom on eggs, they will stay several months at room temp, even longer if refrigerated. Most eggs shipped to Alaska sit at 32.5 F for six months before they're eaten.

AZ is awesome on common sense laws, especially for ones that were already in place and then changed. If you've had chickens for several years and it changed, you should/will be grandfathered in. City of Tucson tried that nonsense a few years ago and long story short, the argument isn't even valid anymore, they just concede.

HOAs are a different story, you get what you pay for.

And keep in mind that it doesn't take any education to be a "reporter" for a news station. I, personally, would take any talking heads advice with a grain of rat squeeze. They both usually have the same value.

Contact your city or county code enforcement, they will know for sure.

they stated that 1 day at room temp is about 1 week in the fridge for eggs..

HOA-- love or hate

i'm in between-- since they keep the neighborhood look good (so don't have to worry about living next to some neighbors who decide to turn their front and backyard into a dump..

they allowed chickens here so

glendale was a bit odd.. they allowed chickens then decided that it's a no-no.. and now they are considering it ?

it's still spring right? but it's getting to 111-113 ?..

i have to add more ventilation holes to my coop and maybe put gallon of water inside the coop over night (with no cap on)..

i have some window shade screen lying around.. guess i have to put it up for additional cover

Yes. I always leave a tub of water in. Day and night. Like a very small one. Its about 3 foot diameter but only about 1 foot deep so the chickens can get out if they fall in.

i decided not to put it in the coop since they will dig and throwing pine shavings into pan it's a waste imo they also poop right in the pan.. :/

so i scratched that idea

now i use those empty milk containers with no cap and put it in the coop.. for the run i use concrete bricks that i have lying around.. spray water on it enough to soak the bricks.. then i put a milk container with 2-3 small holes at the bottom (like a slow drip system) to keep the bricks moist and cool :)

i got some 6'x8' sun screen that will block about 80-90% of the sun.. so i'll put it on and move the coop/run closer to my patio cover so i can cover the coop/run

i also put those reflective foam insulation sheets on the roof of the coop/run

My ducks are the ones that poop in the water. But i clean it out a few times a day. My turkeys on the other hand, i had some empty coffee cans that i filled half way with concrete and fill the rest up with water for them because they drown in ANYthing. And the chickens i have some of the coffee cans out for them as well with that tub in case the ducks decide to go for a dip in the tub. And all my waterers are taken up by the baby chicks right now, otherwise I have 2 big chick waterers out too. And i dont use pine shaving, i did for a bit, and i have tried all types of hay too, but straw seems to be the least-smelly in my case. Haha.

chickens-- they poop everywhere..
hmm.png
imo.. they are like 1 year old walking around with no diapers on..

i tried the pan with water but it's not a good idea

with the concrete bricks. it's easy to just scrape the manure off while excess water will just soak int the ground

so how's the issue with the law/ordinance going? got any clear answer?

Well they wont give me any numbers to the city general... so ill take it as a grain of salt and hope we dont get any new neighbors any time soon.... all our neighbirs bring their kids and family to pet the chickens and ducks. So right now i should be safe. If i get a fine, i have proof that ive had them for 2+years so i should be grandfathered in if anything.

honestly.. if it's illegal in the first place and you got away with it for 2+ years will not make it legal..

personally i don't like to deal with these legal stuffs.. a waste of time, labor and money.. so safe then sorry.

but if most people have chickens in your area.. maybe.. just maybe.. you can get away with it.. or caused them to change the law.. ? who knows..

i got notice from the city for parking my car on my driveway for 2-3 years without moving

yes.. even when i'm not parking on the public street.. it's on my own driveway.. and still they gave me a notice

from it i learned that it's illegal to park a NON-OPERABLE vehicle in the view of the public. even if it is on our own property here..

interesting isn't it?
