My Coop Construction

Looks great! But I'm still trying to figure the 21 sheets of OSB. What am I missing?

Can't wait to see it all painted and pretty, very nicely done.

4 sheets for each wall {2 outside, 2 inside) thats 16. 3 for the roof, 2 for the ceiling. Oh yea 2 for the floor. Thats 23 sheets total. Doesn't look like it untill you start counting. Believe me. I thought the same thing when I was loading my truck up at menards. The ford ranger was squiting.

yup, it all adds up, especially if you do it RIGHT.
There are probably lots of ways to do it cheap, but think of the safety of your hens, and resale value, etc.
Your henhouse looks very sold, strong, and will last a long long time.
I cannot waite to see this ventilation all the way around.

look at the soffet. it open to the inside. I will be installing hardware cloth all around soffet inside and out to keep rodents coon and bats out. That is my venting. there will be a 6" gap all the way around on the inside to the soffet.

OOPS..

....boy did I have a brain fart. My math was way off with that 112 sqft of venting. 9.3sqft of soffet venting space and another 8sqft for the windows. The people door will also have a screen door on the inside. WOW.....I can't beleive I forgot one step in the math....what a maroon.

Well...now that I have the outside painted before the rain starts theses next few days, I can now concentrate on the inside of the coop: insulating, electrical, wall sheeting, and harware cloth installation.

If this is going to be permanent ventilation then be sure that your roof overhang is sufficient to protect from rain entering the coop. The "deeper" the vent the longer the overhang needs to be. Just thought I'd mention it.
