My Cuckoo Maran Has Yellow Legs....New Pic's!

I think what happen was that I had a bunch of Cuckoo Marans and Barred Rocks hatch out at the same time early in the spring. I didn't keep the Barred Rocks, or at least I didn't think I did, and I kept all of the Maran pullets. Somehow, stripes ended up getting mixed up with the Marans. Well, he is a fine looking young man, and I plan on keeping him around. I have several breeding pens out back with specific breeds of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. Plus, I have a small group of chickens that run free out the front of my farm. We have alot a ticks! The free gang are on tick patrol. Stripes is part of the free gang. So, he is not really meant for serious breeding. He just hangs out with one Amercauna pullet, 2 dark egg layers (Marans) , a leghorn pullet ( I can't catch her) and one meat bird cockeral... Oh yeah, and Chubba is my old lady meat bird. She doesn't really hang out with the gang cause she is too big and Slow. Most of the time, she hangs out by the grain bins and waits to be fed.

He is a black sexlink rooster, not a pure BR. Trust me, no pure BR has those super-white hackles, not even hatchery stock. Have had many BRs and BR crosses and he appears to be a cross to me.

I have a BR hen who lays very dark eggs so it can happen, and they're as dark as some hatchery Cuckoo Marans eggs.

Hang on! Now, My guy is a Sex-Link? How did this happen? I have never ordered Sex-link of anything. Are you sure?

As chicks, black sexlink cockerels look identical to pure BRs or Cuckoo Marans of both sexes. All have the white head spot so if they mix up the bins, there is no way to tell as just-hatched chicks. Sexlink pullets do not have a white head spot, but all the aforementioned ones do.

Well, are you 100% sure that he is a sex link? Yesterday, I started off with a Cuckoo Maran roo. Then he went to being a Barred-Rock. Now, he is a sex link roo? His off spring would not be worth much. I wouldn't think.

That is a Black Sex-link Rooster like speckledhen said..

His off spring would be worth as much as someone want to pay for them..
Around here Maran chicks/birds/eggs don't bring much to start with.

Can you get more pics of him in different lighting, it looks kinda like the lighting may be making his hackles and all lighter but I am still thinking Hatchery Barred Rock. I'm pretty sure I've had a few like that before. His barring looks pretty clean and even ( for hatchery quality anyway) and I'm not seeing much gold leakage like most Sexlink roos have.

But a better close up pic would help.
