My Cuckoo Maran Has Yellow Legs....New Pic's!

I don't think he has any gold on him, but I will try to get more pictures. He is a free range bird. So, it is kind of hard to get him to pose for the camera.

Yes, it would be good if you can get a better picture. Sometimes, glare can throw off the color, but not all sexlinks have gold in them. Some just have very white hackles and saddles. Some do tend toward gold and have solid black-with-green-sheen tail feathers as well. However, I guess it's possible to have a hatchery BR with especially awful color. Even if the barring is uneven and cuckoo-like, it still is usually fairly uniform over the entire body in a pure BR, without excessive white.

Well,
I slapped on the rubber boots, and I took more pictures:

Yep the color variation wasnt just the glare. The shape is right on for hatchery barred rocks but they usually dont have those light Pyle areas so it probably is a sexlink or some other barred mix.

I still wouldnt say Marans though.

I think you chicken people are right! He does not have similiar coloring to my Maran pullets. His feathering is too light to be a barred rock. His barring is thin, and he has more white on him then black. Still, this is a shocker to me.... I do like him a heck of a lot even if he is just some big mutt rooster! Thanks for all the help.

I just can't help be wonder how this happened? I hatched him out from a bunch of eggs that I got early in the sprng. I just found the date of these eggs. It was on March 20th I set Cuckoo Maran BUT around the same time I set a couple of 'variety' packs. Chickens that were barnyard classic. Mystery is now solved. If I hadn't of kept a record of my hatching, I would be swearing up and down that I have no idea where he came from.
