My Cull Wood Coop

Beautiful! Love the roof!

I think it needs a name with "Casa" in it Casa Cholla

So how do you get the cull wood? Just ask? Or is it put somewhere? I've seen the small scrap pieces back by the saw but all of them were under a foot, nothing big.

Yup! That's where I find it in the back by the saw. Ours is sprayed with green spray paint markings. Plywood is all different thickness' and dimentions. I found 2 pieces cut in half long ways - 2' x 8'. I used them for the back wall.

NO More CHOLLA! Maybe "Casa de la Pollo"? (House of the chicken? is that right?)

Casa de La Pollo sounds good... I don't speak spanish but know Casa is House and Pollo is chicken so it works for me !

I'll have to look harder at Home Depot ... we just had one open here in my town... don't have to drive 23 miles each way anymore so maybe I'll just pop in and look every couple days. Thanks!

I have a book titled "Build it Better Yourself" published by Roedale Press back in the 70's. It has the best stuff and complete instructions with pictures and diagrams. You can find it on Amazon cheap!
Here's my personal theory: If this World goes to the boogerman and we have to hightail it to the back woods and I can only take 3 books: 1 = The Bible, 2= My American Woman's Cookbook published in the 1920's and 3= Build it Better Yourself!

Sorry, I can't help it: I do speak Spanish, so to be grammatically correct it should be "Casa del Pollo" instead of "Casa de la Pollo," and actually sounds a bit smoother that way anyhow. Great coop, by the way; I'm envious of your creativity. My chickies will be here in mid-April and I'm still looking at plans, haven't started building yet - hope to come up with something my girls will love as well as yours love the home you provided!

I love the coop! Also the Cactus in the foreground (we're still covered with 2 feet of snow here.) I built my coop last summer, about 1/2 out of salvaged wood (eventually I'll post pics here.) I found the local lumberyard to be MUCH more helpful with getting scraps than HD. In fact, they GAVE me bundles of shingles (usually $45/package) because the wrapping was damaged. Woo-hoo!

Very Cute Coop...Is that a chickens peeking back at the camera in picutre #2 (the close-up of the roof one)???

I do have to ask though and don't wanna be a downer, but do you have chicken wire or anything up on the roof(under the tiles)...It looks as if a preditor could climb right up into the coop if it wanted otherwise.....

I really do love the coop though, can't wait to see pictures of the inside...And also love the fact that your rooster already knows the 'weather vein' job...lol

I have made my living as a carpenter for almost 10 years now, and I think your coop looks GREAT! I always tell people to take their time and they can build just about anything. Your coop has great style, and I can agree with you that paint covers a multitude of sins.

I am big scrapper too. I am about to expand my coop with a load of treated 2X4s I stripped off of an old deck. You would be amazed what you can get for free if you just ask, and be creative when you use it.

Remember: "Caulk and paint make a carpenter what he ain't!"
