I have been dying to get five of my very own chickens that are mine and no one else's! Every time I suggest a breed to my dad, it is always the same answer: "Not unless we get rid of some of these chickens that we already have. We have too many chickens." Well, today, I have finally found his weak spot: Dark brown eggs! My dad has a huge soft spot for the dark colored eggs.
Yesterday, we received Meyer Hatchery's catalog. In it were several new breeds. I found out that they had Blue Copper Marans. I was thrilled! I have been looking for these for ages! I showed my dad, and he agreed that I could get some in the spring! I am so excited. I have not decided for sure if my flock will be made up of Blue Copper Marans, or another Marans breed, or an assortment of different Marans. One thing is for sure: I will have one rooster and four hens.
