My Daughter Has Chicken Pox.

Thanks for all your responses. I did take her to the Dr's and he comfirmed it is Chicken Pox. He did say too that 95% of kids that got the vaccine do not get the pox...but as usual my daughter has to be in that 5% that does.

Anyways he said she should have a milder case because of the vaccine and it he feels it should be over with in a few days verses 1 to 2 weeks so I hope he's right.

We have tried the oatmeal and it does seem to help rather well. And the Benidrill is helping her sleep.

. So far she actually taking it pretty well.

As for the chicken bite marks. I never been bit by a chicken. I had my own hen get my finger by accident when hand feeding, but the whole beak grabed my finger bacically, so not a pinch type bite. But those beaks are sharp so I could see that if it was a pinch on a soft area of skin that it would probably leave a small type of welt.

Sorry your little one is itchy!

Wish I lived closer! This is the one vax I will not get for my children (but I won't get on that soapbox here

), so really need to find someone to expose them to. ds starts kindergarten in the fall, and they told me that if someone has a case there then my ds will have to stay home for 2 weeks!
As for it wearing off, our pediatrician said that they will be giving boosters at 12 or so.
Btw, my hubby thought he hadn't had them either, and when we were pg with our ds, he had the dr test his titer levels. Turns out he may have unknowingly had a very mild case, since he does have the immunity.

When I had chicken pox at the age of 11 along with my brothers ( 14 & 8) my Mom gave us catnip tea to bring out the pox and had us take baking soda baths to help with the itching. Oh, boy, did those warm baking soda baths feel good-they took away the itching for awhile!
I read in the Wall Street Journal that kids are getting chicken pox even after 2 or 3 doses of the vaccine. I don't see why they bother with it-chicken pox is a mild disease in healthy children.
Hope your daughter feels better soon!

You're not alone on that one! I've been waiting for my kids to get SOMETHING, but nothing so far and my son is 7 my daughter 3 (going on 16)

My oldest hasn't had the vaccination yet. But when he was around 2 I ran a inhome daycare and he was exposed many times! Never once did he break out. I wonder if some people have a natural immunity?

You moms are funny... wanting to send your kids over!!
I remember getting it when I was in 2nd grade. It was AWFUL! And I was the type of kid that would blow off the doctor (and my mom) so I'd itch and itch and itch and itch.....

The child probably was infected at the doctor's office. Chicken pox comes back later in life as shingles. It makes me itch just thinking about it. My kids both got it just before an expensisve already paid for vacation.

I wish you luck, you are going to need it.

I'm all for the vaccine. I had shingles and ended up with something called Ramsey-Hunt syndrome and permanent hearing damage. I had my kids vaccinated against chicken pox. One of my boys had it, but only 5-10 pox and one day of low grade fever. Good luck, try a bath with baking soda, it will help dry up the sores.
